Meet Our Team – Engineering Stories from the Inside. Featuring Simon Devos, Simulation Engineer

1. Getting to Know You

Can you tell us a bit about your journey to becoming an engineer and how it led you to Engibex?

From a young age, I was drawn to the world of engineering and automotive technology. By the time I was 15, I was trading motorcycle parts and working on small engines in my backyard — a hands-on passion that naturally led me to pursue engineering studies. During my academic journey, I had the opportunity to contribute as a core team member of a Formula Student team, which deepened my interest in high-performance engineering and motorsport.

What drew you to consultancy work compared to a classic engineering role?

As the global automotive industry faces increasing challenges, I saw how consultants play a key role in helping companies adapt, innovate, and stay competitive. Consultancy stood out to me as the ideal environment: it offers the structure of a stable career while allowing me to stay close to the fast-paced, dynamic world I’m passionate about.

2. The Engibex Difference

Engibex puts a strong focus on entrepreneurship. How do you experience that in your daily work?

In general, I’m pulling a lot of projects — being social to motivate colleagues, or technically, whereby I want to become the one in charge of the high-priority topics. I enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.

How would you describe the team culture at Engibex compared to other environments you’ve worked in?

Engibex has been a strong partner in my professional journey, supporting me through key career transitions that brought me to where I am today. What really sets the company apart is its open and accessible culture. Being able to directly call David, the founder, when needed is not something you find everywhere. That level of openness and support made joining Engibex an easy decision for me.

3. The Project Side

Can you walk us through a particularly exciting project you’ve worked on here?

There has been one simulation project, consisting of multiple simulations, of which I’m particularly proud since I managed to get very strong correlation with the measurements performed on physical components. I managed to save multiple tens of thousands of euros by avoiding physical prototyping and testing. In projects like this, you can grow with your component, propose new designs, and lead development from a data-driven perspective.

4. Learning & Growth

“How has Engibex supported your professional development?”

My first project I worked on was not completely aligned with my expectations, and I was looking for more responsibility and challenge, even though I really liked the product I was working on. Engibex supported me in my discussions with management to make an internal transfer at my client. Since I was relatively new in the company, this was quite a challenging move. But I was convinced that this would be a better and more durable role for me. Since the customer was happy with my performance, it was a matter of handling the bureaucracy of a big company — in which Engibex had a lot of experience. Eventually, the transition was successful, and I’m very happy with the proactive approach Engibex showed to make it a success.

5. Reflection & Advice

“What advice would you give to engineers curious about consultancy work but unsure where to start?”

Don’t overthink it. I graduated two years ago, and I’ve realized that it’s nice to have an extra pair of eyes on the lookout for opportunities. I would not have been able to get the job I have now if I was not a consultant. Engibex’s biggest assets to me are their fast-paced but personal approach. It gives the possibility to work on immensely complex products in big companies while still providing a personal touch to your needs. I don’t think this is possible if you work internally at a company.
Next to that, it gives the stability of income while being able to work in challenging sectors like automotive, where the health of a company is not always guaranteed.
